Thank you for this! At the start I had a mental image of my protagonist ready to go and as he was about to hand me his favorite drink, my secondary main character (deuteragonist - I had to look that up, lol) stepped in and handed me her favorite drink. The rest of the time was spent with her! Mind blown!
I was so happy to read this (and I too have learnt a new word). Sounds like she wanted some air time and wasn't going to miss her chance, I just love it!
Thank you Susannah, this was really wonderful. I found out that my protagonist feels trapped and was afraid of the things I noticed around us. She didn't want me to look at them, as somehow the things would then see her, and it would give them power. For her gift, I gave her a train ticket, so she could leave at anytime. It was so surprising to watch her take it, relief replacing the fear, and then she tucked it away. She will never use it, she will never leave but somehow knowing she could was all she needed. I want to do this with all my characters!
WOW, this sounds really powerful, Koreen, thank you so much for sharing! What fascinating insights. I love that you offered her a way out but understood her enough to know that she wouldn't take it. Thanks again for sharing, I am just loving hearing what this meditation is revealing.
I must admit to begin with I fought and grappled with who the protagonist was that was coming as I have many projects on the go, but once I got to that special place I knew that it was me, a younger me. And I got lots about getting on and writing my story and it finished with "stop fighting it and get on and tell 'our' tale" - 'our' being hers and mine.
So ..... I need to give in to what my subconscious is telling.
Thank you for sharing this, Diane! I totally understand the grappling at the beginning, when you have more than one important project on the go. I love that the younger you got her voice heard and look forward to hearing where this takes you :)
The guided meditation gave me a clear entry into the next chapter of the life of my character in just 15 minutes, plus reminded me of the context that might work well for that chapter. I believe I will resume this meditation though future chapters also as my protagonist goes through her life. . The importance of a witness also spoke to my experience deeply. Having someone hear us without trying to fix us is so important.
I am so very happy to hear that the meditation was helpful Jon and delighted that plan to use it again :)
And what you say about someone who can hear us without trying to fix us is so very true. Really hearing someone is such a simple yet sometimes hard gift to offer.
Again this guided effort helped me see where my protagonist was going with her life and gave me clearer view of her person. I've used it twice so far. A great coincidence..... I just noticed that Koreen in the comment below gave her protagonist a train ticket. I also gave my Ellen a ticket on the horse tram up to Central Park, as he was grieving a loss and needed to feel the nature there!
I am so happy to hear that you have been able to use the meditation again, Jonathan and I love that gift to lift Ellen's spirits. What a wonderful connection you have with her. I look forward to the next chapter of her story!
I cannot wait to take some time and sit with this guided meditation, what a gift! Thank you, Susannah.
Ahh, I am excited to hear how it goes for you! :)

Thank you for this beautiful meditation. I found clarity and grew even closer to the person I’m writing about for a new project.
I am so delighted to hear this, Amie! Thank you so much for sharing.
