In honour of the Winter Solstice (here in the Northern Hemisphere), I invite you to picture the scene... You are in a beautiful old cottage, there is snow outside and you can’t possibly go out. The fire is crackling, low music playing, you have your favourite snacks (cheese plates, chocolate, grapes, anything that delights you), a hot drink and a cozy blanket to snuggle under. The air smells of cinnamon and pine. Night has fallen and a lamp lets out just enough golden light, a candle flickers. You have the whole night ahead of you to read into the early hours. What book are you reaching for?
Share the book you love most, are most excited to read this winter, or the one that makes you feel all cozy inside…(ooh and share what you’ll be snacking on too).
If only! My Christmas is taken up with family staying, eating, playing board games and celebrating an inconvenient birthday on Boxing Day. Today, I'm breathing out for the first time in a week and having said goodbye to everyone, looking forward to my husband's return from his family festivities.
Downtime now Susannah. We've escaped to Las Palmas for a couple of months, (I don't do winter), so I have lots of books, including Still Life (halfway through, loving it), and listening to The Lost Apothecary (Fascinating dual timeline, 18thC and now). more waiting in the wings when they're finished! Hope you have a happy and healthy New Year too!
Ooooh, I love this scene. I recently popped into my loft and found a couple of teenage diaries that I remembered. I also found a childhood one I had forgotten and my English books from school. 🥰I shall be diving into those. Also Rivers of London for the book club I’ve just joined. 👍🏾Food wise: salty, snacks savoury I think! Happy Solstice lovely Susannah! ☀️
Happy Solstice! I’ve read A Year in Provence twice now, but have yet to read My Twenty-Five Years In Provence. If it’s anything like the first, it’ll be a few hours easy enjoyment and daydreaming.
Buttered popcorn and Pump Street hot chocolate will be my snack/beverage of choice.
Ooh yes, I hear you! The first thing that came to my mind was a festive romance, like One Day in December by Josie Silver. Do you have any murder mystery recommendations?
I’ve not long finished A Spoonful of Murder which I enjoyed - nothing too heavy. I might try An Unfortunate Christmas Murder if I get the opportunity. One Day in December is on my list to read also .....
Thanks so much for these suggestions! I will look them up. I loved One Day in December because it wasn't such an obvious romance, there were some good twists and turns and I really cared about the characters. It's also set in my home town (London) a place I always miss around Christmas time.

Well that all sounds absolutely delightful. I hope you get some downtime with a good book soon! HNY Sue!

What more perfect reading material for solstice than old diaries? I love this! Enjoy, enjoy!

Oh how I love this, popcorn, hot chocolate and time in the South of France!
Happy Solstice Susannah. I’d like to be reading a cosy murder mystery or a romance
