Carys was the instigator of that and I think it works so well. Glad you liked it too, Andrew :)

Today was like one of those childhood Christmas mornings, waiting for your email to arrive! Such anticipation! I love that I was reading this at the same time as everyone else, and that we agreed to surprise each other.

And thank you, wonderful and eloquent Susannah, for your thoughtful and kind reply. I think the phrase, "the greatest honour for a writer is to be read," is going up on my noticeboard today. Yes, that's exactly what it feels like, a great and humbling honour and one not to be taken lightly or dismissed as you say, in favour of other metrics.

The paragraph that begins, " What a joy.." really was a joy to read and brought me to tears. Thank you for conjuring so precisely those future readers on their way to work, in bed or texting my words to a friend - that was truly beautiful and something I hadn't dared imagine for myself yet. As you say, what greater thing can there be? We write to understand, and we write to connect.

This whole exchange has been a beautiful experience and I feel lit up by our collaboration and connection. Thank you, Susannah, for setting it in motion, I really hope everyone enjoys reading and listening, and I'm excited to see where it goes next ✨

Oh Carys, I love this! I love the idea of you waiting for the email. That's how I used to wait for letters from my penpal when I was younger (listening by the door for the postman, for the possibility of mail with my name on it) and I am so glad we were able to recreate it. Great idea of yours not to see the letter until it was published :) And thank you for the honour of sharing in the excitement and anticipation of your debut novel. What a privilege!

This really was such a beautiful experience. Thanks for coming along for the ride!

I loved this! Can we create a whole book of writers writing to writers! Famous ones, not yet published ones, old, young, neurodivergent, from all around the world? I would love to be part of a project like that - can we make it happen together? If you'd like to talk more (anyone) I'm on pennylapenna@gmail.com and it's my writing day this Friday so I promise I'll reply ! 😁🥰❤️
